About

Hello and welcome to my book blog, Once Upon a Bookshelf, presented by laurasteatimereads.

Photo of Me

My name is Laura and I am a 20 year old student studying Communication and Media. I have a passion for fictional storytelling and I love to read. I love believing in strong characters – characters that are so strong you could swear they are real. I am also very interested in digital communications, particularly blogging and social media. I am obsessed with YouTubers and one day I hope to start my own channel!

I set up this blog to share my love of reading. My dream is to publish my own series of fiction novels. I hope to create characters who will have readers hooked to what happens in their lives and a world that readers wish they could go to. I absolutely love this quote from George R. R. Martin, the writer of the series, A Song of Ice and Fire (1996-present)…

I have lived a thousand lives and I’ve loved a thousand loves. I’ve walked on distant worlds and seen the end of time. Because I read.”

  1. Hello 🙂

I just wanted to let you know that I’ve nominated you for The Liebster Award. Participate if you can, but I know that you’ve been nominated already so understand if you can’t http://shelfiesandselfies.com/2015/04/21/liebster-award/

Also! I am 21 and studying Communication, with a focus on media and publishing at university, and didn’t realise you were quite similar until I read your About, funny.

    Have a wonderful day!

      1. Sorry for the late reply! Just finished end of term exams. I’m just finishing my 2nd year of my Bachelor’s right now, and I’ve already completed a Publishing diploma. I liked the Publishing diploma more because it was hands on skills like coding, graphic design, photo editing, and writing. What are your favourite parts of your program?

      2. I’m just finishing second year too! I have one more assignment left, due in this Friday but it is a pretty fun one, its a feature article so I’m talking about the serious themes in young adult books, like suicide, depression, mental illness, and how it helps young people understand them more and be more aware of them. I would love to hear your views on this topic and I could include you in my article! On my course I love the digital media aspects, I had an interview in London last week for a digital internship. And I love learning about different types of writing, like journalistic, creative and business. I love my course so much, it is perfect for me! Is yours three years? 🙂

      3. Ooh that’s a really interesting topic! I would love to read your paper when you’re done, if that’s ok. I love reading analytical papers that have to do with young adult novels. If you have any specific questions about your topic I would be more than willing to answer them for your article 🙂

That’s so exciting about your interview! I hope you get it. What kind things would you be doing at the internship? What’s your dream career after school? My program is a 4 year Bachelor’s, so it’s a bit longer than yours unfortunately. But I work while in school and run the Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest for the branch of Chapters Indigo that I work at so I’m getting great experience while still in school, which is nice. Working in a bookstore has only made my book addiction even stronger, haha.
